Predicted Germany line-up vs France

Germany get their Euro 2020 group stage campaign underway tonight as they face World Cup winners France in Munich.

Germany have endured a difficult few years and are still reeling from their group stage exit at the 2018 World Cup. Now Die Mannschaft have Mats Hummels and Thomas Muller back in the squad after a period of absence, the Germans can no longer be taken for granted.

Germany are by no means one of the top contenders to win the Euros this summer. But they still have enough quality in their squad. And a good result against France could be the perfect confidence booster as they look to make a deep run into the tournament.

France head into the European Championships as the heavy favourites, and they will certainly fancy their chances against Germany. The 2018 World Cup winners boast one of the strongest squads in the competition, with world-class players in nearly every position.

Joachim Low went to a back three in the two warm-up games against Denmark and Latvia and he seems to be sticking with it. It’s expected to be a 3-4-3 formation with Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz set to return to the starting XI.

It’s expected to be a trusted defence of Matthias Ginter, Mats Hummels, and Antonio Rudiger, with the, trusted Manuel Neuer in goal. Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich and Atalanta’s Robin Gosens are expected to play as the two wing-backs.

With Leon Goretzka not expected to be fit in time to start, Ilkay Gündogan and Toni Kroos will start as the two central midfielders. And Thomas Müller looks set to start through the middle, with Serge Gnabry and Kai Havertz joining him in the front three.

Expected starting XI

Neuer, Ginter, Hummels, Rüdiger, Kimmich, Gündogan, Kroos, Gosens, Havertz, T. Müller, Gnabry
