Contract talks between Blackburn Rovers and key man yet to progress

Discussions over a new contract between Blackburn Rovers and manager Tony Mowbray are yet to progress, with the 58-year-old entering the final six months of his deal, reports Football League World.

Mowbray has been in charge at Ewood Park since February 2017 and has his side pushing for promotion this season. Blackburn have surprised many this season as they sit 3rd in the Sky Bet Championship, one point from the automatic promotion places after their empathic 4-0 win over Birmingham City last Saturday.

Despite the success on the pitch there still remains uncertainty of the pitch regarding Mowbray’s future. Mowbray’s contract is coming to an end at the end of the campaign and according to Football League World, talks over a new deal between the two parties are yet to get off the ground.

The job that Mowbray has done at Ewood Park in his four year tenure hasn’t gone unnoticed and it’s now a question of whether Rovers will do enough to keep the 58-year-old beyond this season.

It was reported earlier this month that League One side Ipswich Town were looking at Mowbray as an option to replace Paul Cook. However, in the end the Tractor Boys appointed Kieran McKenna from Manchester United.

Mowbray and his Blackburn side will now be looking ahead to their boxing day fixture, where they travel to the MKM Stadium to face the rejuvenated Hull City. Knowing a win for the Lancashire side would see them break into the automatic places.
