Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers & Blackpool part of 13-club interest in defender

Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool are just a few names who are all providing an interest in Hamilton Academical defender Jamie Hamilton, reports TEAMtalk.

The report also goes on to name Middlesbrough and Barnsley as teams interested from the EFL, whilst there also being interest from, Celtic, Hibernian, Aberdeen, Liverpool, Burnley, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford and Newcastle United.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are providing the strongest of interests in the 19-year-old, with the Premier League side considering Hamilton should defender Nat Phillips leave this month.

Hamilton has been a regular for the team operating in Scotland’s second-tier, appearing 16 times in the Scottish Championship, chipping in with two goals.

The young defender, who primarily plays at centre-back, has also been tasked with operating as a full-back and a central midfielder this season.

My View

It’s always difficult for EFL sides to snap up players like Hamilton when sides like Liverpool are interested too. However, should Phillips stay at Anfield this month, then teams like Sunderland, Blackburn, Blackpool, Middlesbrough, and Barnsley may have a good chance of getting the 19-year-old.

Due to the number of teams interested in the young defender, it looks like Hamilton is highly-rated amongst the game and performing in Scotland’s second division seems to be helping his development.

He is gaining invaluable experience with the Scottish outfit this season, which would make him a player who would be pushing for a start should a move to the EFL be sanctioned this month.

The report does state that Hamilton would immediately link up with Liverpool’s U23s should they win the race, so if it is first-team football opportunities Hamilton wants, then a move to the EFL would be a better chance.
