Cardiff City and EFL rivals hold talks with free agent striker

Sky Bet Championship side Cardiff City are already starting to get their summer plans under way with the announcement of Ebou Adams joining the Bluebirds on a free transfer last week.

Now the Welsh side look to be moving to their next target with free agent Charlie Austin holding talks with the Championship side. However, the 32-year-old has also held talks with Cardiff’s bitter rivals Swansea City, this is according to Football League World.

The report goes on to state that as well as speaking to these EFL sides, the striker is also looking into the possibility of moving to the MLS. This is after the striker was released by Championship side QPR.

It was confirmed earlier this month that the 32-year-old would not be offered a new contract by the R’s and was set to leave when his contract expired this summer.

Across two spells, Austin scored 61 goals in 147 appearances for the west London club, including 14 in 59 games since re-joining them from West Bromwich Albion in January 2021.

He made it clear after leaving the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium that he would not be retiring and it appears he is now assessing his options.

Them options being both Welsh sides in the Championship with sources telling Football League World that Swansea and Cardiff are interested in a potential deal for Austin.

However, the 32-year-old has always had in mind about playing in the MLS and it is believed the striker is now looking into that possibility.

Austin is no longer the main goalscorer that he once was, but he now has the experience of playing in the Championship and the leadership qualities he has would be a big asset to both of these sides.
