Last season’s Europa League finalists Rangers are keeping a close eye on Cambridge United’s goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov, a report from Football Insider has claimed.

The Glasgow giants are considering their options between the sticks and have registered their interest in the 25-year-old Bulgarian.

Mitov has been really impressive in League One since Cambridge’s promotion a couple of seasons ago. The 25-year-old had some memorable games last campaign, but probably his most stand out moment would have been his man of the match display in the FA Cup victory over Premier League side Newcastle United.

Mitov is out of contract at the Abbey Stadium at the end of this season and Cambridge may see this as an opportunity to cash in on the 25-year-old unless they can agree new terms for the shot-stopper.

Mitov started in Cambridge’s opening league game last weekend and the goalie managed to keep a clean sheet as the Us secured a 1-0 win over MK Dons.

The 25-year-old joined the Us from Charlton Athletic in 2017 and has gone on to make 133 appearances in total. Mitov was part of the side that won promotion from League Two in 2020-21.

While for Rangers, Jon McLaughlin has started their opening two matches this season in goal, including the 2-0 Champions League defeat to Union Saint-Gilloise on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old deputized for Ibrox legend Allan McGregor for the bulk of 2021-22 and McGregor, who will turn 41 in January, is out of contract at the end of the current campaign.
